Big Berkey® System – 2.25 Gallons

The Big Berkey® System – 2.25 Gallons is the most popular and versatile Berkey® system, ideal for both home use and outdoor activities. It delivers the purest, best-tasting drinking water using a natural gravity-fed purification method—no chemicals, electricity, or complicated processes required. The Big Berkey® System is capable of purifying untreated water from rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, or wells, making it essential for everyday use and for unexpected emergency situations.

This system is available in two configurations:

• Big Berkey® System with 2 Black Berkey® Purification Elements

• Big Berkey® System with 4 Black Berkey® Purification Elements

Black Berkey® Purification Elements
All Berkey stainless steel systems include Black Berkey® Purification Elements, tested by State and EPA-accredited laboratories to exceed NSF/ANSI Standard 53. Each pair of elements can purify up to approximately 6,000 gallons of water before replacement.

Berkey PF-2™ Fluoride and Arsenic Reduction Elements (Sold Separately)
PF-2™ elements reduce fluoride, arsenic, and other heavy metal ions. Sold in sets of two, they attach to the bottom of the Black Berkey® Purification Elements and rest in the lower chamber of the system.

Berkey® Standard Spigot
The Big Berkey® includes an FDA-approved, BPA-free polypropylene spigot. Replacement spigots, including the Berkey Stainless Steel™ Spigot, are available separately.

The Big Berkey® System comes standard with 2 Black Berkey® Purification Elements and is ideal for 1–4 people for everyday use. It can be expanded to hold up to 4 elements for faster filtration.

Flow rate is based on the upper chamber being full. Rate decreases as water level drops.

How to Assemble the Big Berkey® System

1. Wash hands and clean the system before assembly.

2. Remove all components from packaging and verify contents.

3. Prime the Black Berkey® Purification Elements.

4. Place the large sealing washer on the threaded stem of each element.

5. Insert each element into the holes in the base of the upper chamber.

6. Secure each element with the wing nut.

7. Set the upper chamber onto the lower chamber and place the lid on top.

Priming the Black Berkey® Purification Elements

1. Attach the priming button or Primer™.

2. Run water through the element until fully saturated.

3. Install into the system once primed.
